The Story Goes...
I founded Smith Brothers in 2024 to combine my love for history, craftsmanship, and the hands-on work I grew up around. The name "Smith Brothers" is a tribute to my father's fine carpentry business, Smith & Sons, which exemplified quality and tradition. Growing up, I had the privilege of watching my mom teach and my dad restore historical buildings, each instilling in me a deep appreciation for their crafts. My mom's passion for education inspired my eight-year teaching career, while my dad's dedication to craftsmanship sparked my own desire to work with my hands and carry on the family legacy.
I didn't stay solo for long. Kristen was my biggest cheerleader from day one. She loves talking shop and was always sneaking her eye for design into my projects. Before long she was all in, and Smith Brothers became a two-person team.
How we work.
Joe runs the job sites and Kristen keeps everything else on track: scheduling, updates, and making sure you always know what's happening and when. She also brings a designer's eye that makes each project a little more special. We're a small team on purpose. You work directly with us from the first walkthrough to the final punch list, never with a rotating crew or a salesperson.
Off the Clock.
Home is a 120-year-old house in Staunton that we're always working on, shared with our dog, Indy, and our twin boys. The boys keep us busy. Between the two of them, we've learned that no job site is as unpredictable as they are. When we do get a free minute, you'll find us hiking or digging through thrift stores for unique finds.
Every project is a chance to honor a family legacy of craftsmanship and to create something meaningful for the people who live there.
Have a project in mind? We'd love to hear about it.
